This blog is dedicated to covering the amazing start-up Riya. If you’ve got no idea what Riya is, your best bet is to head over to the website and start reading through the developer’s blogs. I’ve also got links to a few of them in the sidebar here for easier access. Basically, I’m a huge fan of the concept and the software, and I want to get the word around to as many people as I possibly can about Riya, because I firmly believe it is one of the most amazing prospects amidst all the web2.0 stuff I have seen.
In short, Riya is facial recognition software that is hosted over the internet. You upload your photo collection, “train” the software on who is who, and then Riya can search all photos for the people that you’ve tagged in your collection. The cool part is that it doesn’t just have to search YOUR files — although it can do that as well — but it can search the entirety of Riya’s collection and find photographs from other users with your people in them.
Basically, Riya is looking to own the photosearch market in the same way that Google owns the search market. By developing a killer tool, they’re setting themselves up to be one of the next hot internet properties, and I figured it was high time someone devoted a weblog to them. It’s interesting enough to me that I want to maintain this thing, and I haven’t even recieved my alpha invitation yet!
